On one of the days, we had a nice but tiring day of walking and enjoying the sites around Navy Pier. I was ready to sit down. Though I never thought I'd be sitting down, relaxing and enjoy being at the "dog beach" of Lake Michigan in Chicago. We were sitting on the concrete steps of the levee, laughing and having a good time watching the dogs and people interact. If I'd been concentrating on my "photo taking" instead of laughing so much, I would have taken some better quality photos to share. But when my husband and I are out exploring together, it's always a fun time and the both of us end up laughing a lot! We especially enjoyed watching the dogs. Oh to be a dog enjoying the beach! Tails wagging, tongues hanging out, fur flying in the wind! Not a care in the world!
The first sight that we saw on the levee was an ice cream vendor!
People were everywhere, just letting their dogs splash in the water and play on the beach. I believe that one of the dogs I have photographed quite a bit is a young brindle Great Dane.
Some of the owners enjoyed a game of fetch or played Frisbee with their dogs.
This dog is wondering where all the dogs went!
This is the Great Dane and husky or malamute. They've been playing pretty hard as the Great Dane's tongue is hanging out!
Beautiful dog, the husky or malamute. I don't know which breed, they're so similar to me.
This old German Shepherd. He just wandered around very slowly on the edge of the water as the rest of the dogs literally ran around him and played. He was probably thinking "I used to play like that...now all I can do is slowly walk". But it seemed to me that they were just a nuisance to him. It's so sad when our pets get so old and fragile. His owner was a young girl who was relaxing on the beach while he just wandered around, enjoying the only pace and activity he now enjoyed. I thought it was kind of her to include her old dog in her day at the beach. When it was time for her to go, she called his name and he just slowly sauntered up to her, tail wagging, and she affectionately greeted him.
The young Great Dane had loads of energy playing with his buddy.
He could outrun most of the other dogs as evident in this photograph and the following one.
This young man played Frisbee with his dog. I believe the dog was a Whippet.
This little guy was content to just play in the sand, ignoring much of what was going on around him.
Here's the little guy again, just wanting to be left alone. But that wasn't about to happen when there's so many dogs having fun!
It's almost like the smaller white dog is wondering why the labrador always gets the ball.
I can almost hear him say "oh to heck with it!"
Huskies/malamutes having fun...
...and more fun!
I love this photograph of the boxers running and playing.
Its seems the little guy is just wanting the dogs to go away.....please.....again.
Now he's content.....again!
But not for long.
This is MY space!
It was such a great day to be at the "dog beach"...but then again it's never a bad day for the dogs!
