"Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for every dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn't carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life."~~~Stephen King

The sweet side of life

I have relocated and relocated so much in my life. I tend to get bored staying in one area for too long. I get restless. The down side to living here and there, is that you don't get a chance to get attached to people. No roots. I've lived in the same small town now for two years and four months. My life now is ordinary. I used to consider ordinary as being boring. But ordinary isn't all bad. It's comfortable.

My feelings regarding the ordinary life is renewed. I can enjoy these sweet things even on days when I'm not at my best. The giggles shared with sisters on the phone..."Don't you remember that? You're kidding! No, I don't remember that. Did I do that? No I couldn't have!" and the endless laughing that follows. The scribbled notes. My sweet husband. The chats with friends. A cup of hot green tea. A classic movie. Some Dove chocolate. Curling up with a good book. The constant purr of Holly. It is these sweet things which make every place.....every home.....lovely.

If I were to travel to some place.....some place new and exciting.....it, too, would become ordinary after awhile. I wouldn't get to keep moving around. Newness does not insure happiness. Because truly lovely life is dependent on the little things. The little things that one easily takes for granted. The cliche "The grass is always greener on the other side" instantly comes to mind, and certainly does not hold true, for I have looked.....and wandered.....on the other side, and it was not greener. It only has more weeds.

These little things, I have been learning to embrace. Instead of letting my thoughts wander off to what I feel exciting, I take a moment to embrace and appreciate the sweet little things. I soon discover these things are the ones which prove to be more beautiful than anything else.
