"Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for every dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn't carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life."~~~Stephen King

Local Pumpkin Festival, written September 17, 2011

"I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than to be crowded on a velvet cushion."~~~Henry David Thoreau

Since today's weather was so nice and not oppressively hot like it has been in recent years, I decided to walk through the bustling crowd at the Pumpkin Festival. The town I live in is called "The Pumpkin Capitol of the World" and home to Libby's. Every fall you'll see fields of pumpkins being grown locally by farmers and see semi's hauling loads and loads of pumpkins into Libby's facility for processing.

"Kids of all ages" were out and about enjoying the carnival rides, the craft tents, eating good food (anything from pork chop sandwiches, to hot dogs to pumpkin ice cream...anything and everything pumpkin, even chili), winning stuffed animals, watching the pumpkin pie eating contest, and people just being out on a beautiful sunny day. While at the festival, I was going to get something good to eat for lunch, but the line was way too long, and I was way too hungry to wait, so I settled on a homemade sugar cookie instead! It wasn't a bad substitute...it was delicious!

The craft vendors had some really nice merchandise. It's always so much fun to watch the people having a good time too! I bought a few things for my kitchen wall and also a prim pillow for the sofa. I'll get them on the wall once the kitchen's remodeling is completed!
