"Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for every dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn't carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life."~~~Stephen King

What Do We Do When We're Sleeping? written July 13, 2011

Have you ever wondered what on earth you do in your sleep? I do. I woke up yesterday morning and one of my fingers on my left hand would not straighten out, and it really hurt to straighten it. It pops and feels as if it is out of joint, sort of floppy, but no severe pain. My entire hand feels a little bit sprained and pain radiated to my wrists. What on earth did I do?? I'll never know. My sweet husband Brian put it in a splint last night (we didn't have anything around the house to use for a splint, so I suggested going to the store to get some fudgesickles [Weightwatchers brand of course] and to use the sticks for the splints!) It worked great with the added benefit of dessert! I hope it heals soon because it is amazing how much you use that finger when you use your hand to do things...like trying to type! Below is a photo of me holding Holly with the splint on.

I did end up going to an orthopedist's physician's assistant a week or so later. She told me the layman's term for this condition is "trigger finger", and that it generally affects people from the ages of 55 to 60. Now mind you, this happened on the morning of April 13th...I turned 55 on April 12! Is this an omen of what's to come?  She graciously (and "almost" painlessly) gave me an injection of cortisone in the underside (palm side) pad underneath my finger. It stung a bit, much like a bee sting. It didn't help the condition right away, but after a few weeks it's painfree and hardly "popping" at all.
