"Wild" Horses

I love horses, always have and always will. I"ve always wanted one. Their elegant grace and beauty mesmerize me. I was raised in town so it was out of the question. Growing up in a small town I had the usual cats, dogs, rabbits, parakeets, fish, turtles...but no horse. My first marriage was to a farmer. I thought for sure I'd finally get a horse! On the farm we raised registered sheep, cattle, hogs, one lonely goat, one very lonely rooster, dogs and cats...but he hated horses. He thought they were a waste of money and were worthless because they didn't make any money. You can imagine my dismay. To this day I have never had the opportunity to have a horse of my own, but I do get lots of enjoyment photographing horses when I'm out for my leisurely country drives.
I try to capture the spirit of the horse...the "wild" side so to speak. So far I've had no luck at all at accomplishing this. I see a beautiful horse, like I did yesterday on one of my travels. She was a beauty. I walked up to the fence waiting for her to prance about, do some "wild" things like rear up or kick her heels. The following photo is what I got.
As soon as I walked up to the fence with my camera she came towards me wanting some attention. I get this type of reaction from horses a  lot. So instead of getting the "wild" photos I had intended, I gave in and gave her ears a good scratch and stroked her velvety soft muzzle. Still I waited for the perfect shot...and this is what she did for me...

I thought well I'll give her one more chance. I thought she'd get up from her roll in the dust to run and kick up her heels.

She got up, looked at me and sauntered off to her shelter that can be seen in the upper left of the photo. Oh well, I really enjoyed petting and talking to her! She enjoyed it too!

This is the wildest I've ever seen. When I go up to the fence and the horses just keep eating or walking away! I guess I'm going to have to go out west to see the wild Mustangs or to Australia to see the brumbies. So far I've had no such luck here, but I'll keep trying!

This photo shows the horse's spirit...now to capture a horse running with her mane flying in the wind!

This was taken on a cold blustery day. The horses are donned with their winter coats.

This is one of my favorite photos. I call it "Ebony and Ivory"
These horses ran right towards me as soon as I got out of my car!
