"Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for every dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn't carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life."~~~Stephen King

Summer day

🔸What a lovely morning swinging under the canopy of the old maple tree. It’s 71 degrees, dew point is down to 61 and the air quality is 36! I’m enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the happy singing of the birds.

🔸Charlie and Ethel, our resident house wrens, have been so busy feeding their babies. As soon as they leave their little birdhouse the babies start crying for more food. Sometimes Ethel will wait right inside the opening, with her little head poking out, for Charlie to come back bearing food. He’ll finally arrive with a morsel of food in his beak and tenderly pass it on to Ethel to feed the babies. For something so small, the babies can sure make a ruckus. Charlie and Ethel are so enjoyable to watch. Going in and out. Such blessings and truly miracles.

🔸Goldfinches are happily plucking the petals off the zinnias and coneflowers and relishing the seeds. I hear Chuckles, the red-bellied woodpecker, chuckling somewhere in the distance. Somewhere I hear the cawing of a crow. The robins and cardinals are singing their melodies. I occasionally hear a catbird meowing.

🔸The flowers are all so beautiful and flourishing. The dwarf sunflowers 🌻 are just starting to bloom. Brian bought a seed packet early spring when he bought the zinnia seeds and dahlia bulbs. The Rose of Sharons and oak leaf hydrangeas are lovely. The beauty and sounds of God’s creation surrounds us.
