"Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for every dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn't carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life."~~~Stephen King

Friday nights

There's nothing like carry-out pizza, enjoying a nice warm fire and a movie on a Friday night. I was looking through TCM's movie channel listings last night and told my husband that the "Al Capone" movie was on at 7. It was made in 1959 and starred Rod Steiger as Capone. I'm no fan of gangster movies, but I thought he'd enjoy a "manly" movie, and I could watch it and tolerate it!

I was sitting there, eyes actually glued to the 52" television screen, actually watching the movie with great intensity, when there was an extremely loud CRACK, much like the sound of the tommy guns in the movie. It startled me so much that I jumped off the sofa cushion.

After I gained my composure, I realized it was only the wood in the fireplace crackling!
